F.A.Q.

What is the difference between Complementary therapy and Alternative therapy?

Correctly speaking, an Alternative therapist should have a medical qualification, or be trained to the level where they can make diagnoses (e.g. osteopaths, chiroprators etc). Complementary therapists are trained to perform their therapy to a high standard, but are not trained to give diagnoses. Only a medically trained individual can do that. If you are concerned that you may have a serious illness, then always visit your GP before undertaking a course of complementary therapy.

How many sessions am I likely to need?

We test this up through muscle testing when you have your first session. Most clients need 1-3 sessions, and I'm always amazed what can be achieved for people in just one or two. The number of sessions will be affected by, for instance, how much of your life you want to work on, or whether a situation has become long-standing, in which case it's most likely that your body would want that work to be done slowly over a period of months. That doesn't necessarily mean a larger number of sessions are required, just that there may be longer gaps in between them.

How often will I need to come for sessions?

If, for instance, your body tests up that you need three sessions, I'd then check how often you needed to have them. Usually they are around three to four weeks apart, but from time to time I get a client who needs, for example, the first and second just two weeks apart, and then the second and third appointments two months apart. Your body knows best!

How quickly will I notice benefits?

Most clients notice an immediate benefit, in that they feel more relaxed, or more 'in balance' when they leave the session. Other deeper changes can take a few days or even weeks to fully come through. I think of these as being like cogs in a large machine, slowly coming into alignment. You can't rush it.

What if HK changes me and I don't like it?

Some people worry that by doing HK they will change in some way that they didn't anticipate and actively want. This isn't what happens though, as the changes you experience are subtle, gentle and in a positive direction. HK can only make you more your true self - reducing negative 'blocks' and increasing your sense of well-being. It's truly a goal-orientated therapy, helping you to become a better you!

Are there any contraindications for HK?

No - as long as you are able to be muscle tested comfortably, I can work on you. HK doesn't interfere with other treatment protocols, and will also not 'overload' you, so it can be safely combined with other conventional or complementary treatments. The only time we wouldn't be able to work would be if your body indicated that we couldn't work at this time. That has only happened to me once, but it can happen. There is obviously no charge for an appointment that ends that way!

I'm pregnant, can you still work on me?

Yes, provided your body indicates that we can, through the muscle testing. Sessions I've done on pregnant women have been fascinating - sometimes the corrections are for Mum and sometimes when I test and ask, they're for the baby. Again, if your body indicated that it was not a suitable time for us to work, there would be no charge for the session.

Where did you train in Health Kinesiology?

I trained in Oxford with a long-time HK tutor who has gone on to become our Head of HK for the UK. Each course was taught in a small group of between 6 and 12 students, in a hands-on way. I am hugely grateful to have been guided to be taught by her as she's a stickler for detail, so if you pleased her, you knew you were doing it right!

Each course was also followed up by many hours of case studies, which allowed me to hone my skills. We also had to pass each course before the next one could be done (there were five courses in all) as well as a final assessment.

Which venues do you work from?

Mobile and clinic appointments are available within a wide catchment area including Cambridge, Ely, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. For those who prefer it, you can also book to see me at my home in West Row.

Do you accept credit cards?

You can pay for an appointment using your credit card via Paypal, by requesting a paypal invoice from me, as long as you pay this a minimum of one day before your appointment (this is just so that I have received Paypal's email confirmation). You can also pay me using a credit card in person at White Tara in Newmarket.
